The Free Press Magazine (FPM) was first registered on August 20, 2007 with the Ministry of Information of the Kingdom of Cambodia. Since its first printed issue, which broke the silence in the country, was confiscated by the government of Cambodia and the Cambodian police searched for editorial groups of the magazine in early November 2007, its publisher and editor-in-chief was forced to live in exile and the magazine working group was in hiding and unable to fulfill their mission for a period of time. In May 2009 a few months after the publisher and editor-in-chief of the magazine resettled in Norway, the spirit of The Free Press Magazine reappeared. With the support of a small group of Cambodian community in Norway, USA, Denmark, and Cambodia, The Free Press Magazine online (www.fpmonline.net) was established as a substitute for The Free Press Magazine (printed magazine) on 1stJanuary 2010. In its one-year online publication, The Free Press Magazine online has been viewed by over one million visitors. With its commitment to journalism, freedom of expression and the free press for Cambodia, The Free Press Magazine online will continue its mission under the management of a newly established voluntary media organization, Freedom & Press Monitor, Cambodia. But The Free Press Magazine has its own statute, principle of publication and structure.
